Stainless Steel Letters Walls Sign Mounting Options
Stainless steel letter sign mounting options include flush with the wall or raised/floated from the wall.
If you are looking for letters with greater depth or thickness, consider our cast metal letters, fabricated stainless steel letters, or backlit letters.
Installation is simple. You can mount IDS Sign cut stainless steel letters on almost any wall, including interior office drywall, exterior brick, stone, metal siding, and stucco – screw into the back of the letters using the included stud mount.
For shaded effects, use spacers (also included), which will allow your letters to float on the wall. All of our cut metal letters come with a paper mounting template to show you where to drill the holes.
Flush Mount
The no mount option is for situations where you want to use some type of adhesive (such as silicon caulk or liquid nails) to adhere the letters directly to a flat surface. The problem with this type of mounting is that the glue tends to squeeze out of the edges and can become very messy.
In addition, the letters can move around before the glue sets, which for large letters means you need to use long strips of tape to hold them in place.
Weld stud mount
Available for 1/8″ material thickness only. Weld studs are prone to failure, we recommend the 1/4″ material option with a removable drill and tap studs. One of the other forms of stud mount is required when ordering polished letters, as the manufacturing process cannot be completed without them.
Removable Stud Mounts
The most popular mounts with cut metal letters are stud mounts. Stainless steel letters and numbers with removable or screw-in studs are drilled on the back of the letters and tapped to accept the studs.
The studs are then glued to your mounting surface with silicon caulk or epoxy and the letters are held firmly in place. For all stud types, we provide a mounting die template to properly position the stud holes for installation.
Edge stud mounting
Bottom studs (or top or both!) Provides you with threaded holes at the edge of the letters for mounting in a vertical configuration.
Metal letters must be at least 3/8″ thick to be drilled, and letters with a minimum height of 4″ round letters will have a flat bottom, which also applies to top-drilled letters.
Metal letters 8″ or larger must be laced for outdoor use per code. We do not provide ties.
Bottom/top rail mounting
The maximum length of the rails is 8 feet and does not apply to letters larger than 24″ or smaller than 4″. Metal letters are bolted to their edges via rails and can be finished on the bottom, top, or both upon request.
This order form provides a rail at the bottom of the letter only. For other options, please contact us for a quote.
Rear Rail Bracket
The double rail is mostly used for mounting on corrugated metal buildings. It does detract from the look of the sign and is considered old school. In today’s world, metal conduit piping from The Home Depot looks better for mounting your letters and they are ready to go.
The maximum length for double rail mounting is 8 feet, the rails are pre-drilled to accept the letters ordered, and screws go through the rails into the letters. Assembly is required.
Corner Bracket Installation
Corner brackets are mounted like roof parapets on a flat surface with the letters attached to the bottom rail only. This mount will require lacing if the 8″ letter height is exceeded.
