Product Description of Raceway Mounted Signs
Raceway mounted signs are a versatile and cost-effective solution for displaying important information and advertising in a variety of settings. These signs are mounted on a raceway, a rectangular or square-shaped enclosure that houses the sign’s electrical and mechanical components.
Raceway mounted signs are often used in commercial and retail settings, as well as in outdoor settings such as parks, sports arenas, and transit stations. They are ideal for displaying directional and informational messages, as well as advertising and promotional content.
Raceway mounted signs are available in a range of sizes and styles, and can be customized with your choice of text, graphics, and lighting options. They are easy to install and maintain, and can be mounted on walls, poles, or other structures.
One of the key benefits of raceway mounted signs is their durability and longevity. These signs are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and are built to last, ensuring that your messages and advertising remain visible and effective for years to come.
In addition to their durability and versatility, raceway mounted signs are also energy-efficient and eco-friendly. They use LED lighting technology, which uses less energy and produces less heat than traditional incandescent bulbs, making them a sustainable and cost-effective choice for your signage needs.
Whether you need to display directional information, promote your business, or advertise a special event, raceway mounted signs are a smart and effective solution. Contact us today to learn more about our raceway mounted sign options and to start creating your own custom signage.

Raceway Mounted Signs and Their Benefits
Raceway Mounted Signs are mounted on an aluminum box known as a raceway. This type of Outdoor Business Sign Letters is eye-catching and very easy to read from a distance.
Raceway Mounted Channel Letters contain all electrical components including wiring and transformers needed for the sign to work. All of the electrical components including transformers are pre-wired inside the rectangular, aluminum box that sits behind the attached LED Illuminated Letters.
The raceway itself is attached to your wall with lag bolts, through bolts, or toggle bolts, depending on your type of wall. We’ll also paint the mounting system to match your wall color, which helps blend in the mounting with your wall. Just give us your wall color and we’ll do the rest. What Is The Difference Between Raceway and Wireway Mounting?
Once you have identified the channel letter signs, the next task you must complete is to choose how to mount those letters. Most people would naturally assume that they need to choose flush mounting, where the letters are attached directly to the building or wall of the storefront; but this is not your only option.
In fact, there are three mounting options for channel letters, including flush mounting. The other two include raceway and wireway.
What’s the difference between raceway mount and wireway mount? Which one should you choose for your business? We’re going to answer both of these questions today. Let’s get started.
What Is A Raceway?
Raceways are rectangular mounts of signage that are also used to enclose the wiring of any electrical component, such as transformers or light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Standard raceways can be between 0.063 and 0.125 inches thick, depending on the building or certain requirements of state or local ordinances. Raceways are prefabricated.
Installing the raceway is relatively simple, requiring only that the screw holes corresponding to the top of the pipe be drilled in the wall where it is to be installed and a hole reserved for the power cord, then the raceway is locked to the wall. Compared to recessed installation, raceway installation has one distinct advantage. Fewer holes are required, which may be essential if you are renting a storefront from a landlord.
Raceways can be painted to match the color of the building façade, or they can be contrasted with the color of the building and the channel letters attached to it.
What is a Wireway?
Compared to raceways, wireways are slender, enclosed channels that hold wires and are usually made of aluminum. The channel letters are attached to the electrical conduit in the same way as they are attached to the pipe.
The only advantage here is that the wireway is not a huge panel. Landlords often require tenants in shopping plazas or similar locations to use wireways over conduit because they are smaller in size and therefore less problematic to relocate.
In addition, certain laws and regulations allow channel letters to extend or protrude to date. The wireways help to keep the channel letters within the permitted protrusion area.
Simplicity and Aesthetics
If regulations do not force you to choose flush mounts, raceways, or wireways, then you can see which is better for your business based on ease of installation, simplicity of design, and aesthetics.
For example, raceway mounts can be bulky in appearance because the traditional 7 “*7” style typically uses lugs and welded steel mounts. From a design standpoint, this extra metal may be out of place and may detract from the overall design of your grooved letters and logo frame.
On the other hand, raceways require fewer holes than if they were flush with the building, which avoids structural damage and saves labor time on drilling and masonry work. This is also where wire and cable can come in handy.
Because of their appearance, raceways often look like an afterthought. However, a wireway can be implemented and become a feature in the overall design, creating more streamlined and attractive signage. Why? The wireway is smaller and shallower in size.
The downside to this lack of depth is that the entire unit must usually be removed from the wall when servicing or repairing the sign. The raceway is easier when you need to perform routine maintenance.
All of the electrical components are contained in the box, allowing the technician to simply open the unit and work anywhere the sign is located.
However, raceway and wireway mounts are easier to remove and reposition than recessed mounts because everything is attached to the mounting structure.
Raceway VS Wireway
Both raceway and wireway provide a stress-free way to install slotted letters into a building and help manage wires and other elements.
Raceway mounts are ideal if you don’t mind the look of raceways and want easy access to electrical components.
That said, wireways are aesthetically pleasing and do not detract from the overall design or appeal of the sign. However, they are less flexible in terms of maintenance.
So who’s the winner? That’s up to you. Be sure to research your area’s sign codes and regulations and consider the design of the sign. Knowing this will help you decide which installation is best!

The Process of Frontlit Channel Sign Letters On Raceway
- 1. The metal sheet is cut by a computer-controlled laser machine based on vector design files(.cdr/.eps/.ai/.scv, etc), this creates the back case and trim border of the channel letters.
- 2. The returns are welded at trim by bending a 2-3 inch wide (50–80 mm) metal strip to form the 3D letter shape. The trim and returns can be painted colors base on PMS.
- 3. A translucent acrylic face is cut to fit inside the letter shape.
- 4. Waterproof LED modules are installed on the back bottom case and screwed with the letter shape.
- 5. When illuminated at night, channel letters draw the eyes of passers-by.
Raceway Mounted Signs FAQ
What Is Channel Letters Raceway?
Channel letters can be flush mounted (attached directly to the front of the building) or mounted on a raceway or wireway. A raceway is a rectangular mounting structure that serves as both a receptacle for the electrical components of a sign (such as a transformer) and as a mounting structure.
What Is The Difference Between Electrical Raceway And Conduit?
A conduit is a tube or slot used to protect electrical wires. Compared to raceways, conduits are small and generally only accommodate the passage of electrical wires.
A raceway is an enclosed conduit that forms a physical pathway for electrical wires. Raceways protect wires and cables from heat, moisture, corrosion, water intrusion, and general physical threats.
And the raceway is also a mounting structure that allows the channel letters to be pre-installed on the raceway and then the raceway to be mounted directly to the wall.
What Is Raceway Mounted Signage?
A raceway mounted sign is a type of sign where individual channel letters are mounted on the raceway in a designed sequence.
The raceway is a rectangular box-like structure that encapsulates the letter sign’s power cord, transformer, etc. within it.
The raceway signage is easy to install and requires much fewer holes to be drilled in the wall compared to the separated individual letters, therefore, some owners require a channel letter installation.
